The Prokart Australian Endurance Kart Championship 2006

The Australian Endurnace Kart Championship is made up of two divisions, Division A and Division B.  Both divisions that compete do so at the same time.

Division A sees the first kart past the post declared the winner, second past is second and so on. That one is easy.

Division B is similar to a golf handicap but more akin to corrected time in yacht racing.  Each team when they start with us begins with a 5% handicap, put simply for every 100 laps the ultimate race leader completes a 5% handicap team are awarded an extra 5 laps.  After each race, the team’s handicap and performance are judged against their current result and an average across the two is taken. So a poor performance will see a handicap rise, the maximum increase is 2% per race meeting.  This has been implemented to prevent a team on a very low handicap retiring from a race and then receiving a huge handicap at the next race meeting.  In the case of good performance then the handicap can reduce and there is no limit to how quickly this may happen.  Once a team’s handicap is reduced to below 0.5% they play off zero and therefore receive no extra laps.  The maximum a handicap can be is 12%.

The idea behind the Division B system is to allow all karts to complete in both divisions as really all teams competing in Division B are racing their previous performances.  It provides an excellent way to reward teams who hand in better than their average performance and gives kudos to those who may not receive recognition otherwise.  After all if you finish mid field or down the back and never had anything to show for it, then it would be easy to become disheartened with the sport.  This way every team stands a chance of winning a trophy. At each Race meeting team race for the following Trophies:

Division A

First, Second and Third

Division B

First, Second and Third
